      Gold pipe cleaner for halo

Scrunch top of pop can, leaving bottom straight so angel can stand, (top should look like face of angel with mouth open to sing). Spray paint cans white. Let dry.

Paint the top of can flesh color for face. Let dry.

Cut and shape halo out of gold pipe cleaner. Set aside.

Cut and fold about 16-18" piece of paper twist in half and wire together for wings. Set aside.

Along the bottom of can do a border with the gold paint, (an easy decorative border can be made with bottom of small paint brush), dip in gold paint and make dots for flowers, and then dip in paint and dot on can in half circle without re dipping for consecutively smaller dots, (makes a lacy look).

Do the face with the sharpee markers, (cute with closed eyes and eyelashes), and a dot for nose, (can opening is mouth). Use pink chalk or blush and blush the cheeks with cotton swabs. Glue on moss around top of face for hair and glue halo into hair. (Tacky glue works best it is thicker and holds faster.) Glue paper wings on the back.

      Paper Twist Angel
      Sue Moore
      Leader
South Cook County Girl Scout Council
      Tinley Park, Illinois, USA
      [email protected]

      Materials:

1 wooden ball or cherry or apple shape for head
1 pipe cleaner (same color as paper twist)
3 12 inch pieces of paper twist ribbon of selected color
1 4 inch piece of paper twist of selected color
1 12 inch piece of white paper twist ribbon
      Optional Materials:

      Tacky glue
      Doll hair
      Black paint for facial features
      Something for angel to hold
      Directions:

Unravel all of the paper twist ribbon pieces.

If you want angel to have hair glue it on.

If you want angel to have facial features, put them on wooden piece with black paint.

Let hair and paint fully dry before putting head onto body.

Take the three 12" pieces of ribbon and place on top of each other. Take white piece of ribbon and fold ends so they meet at the center point for wings. Take 4" piece of ribbon and roll to make sleeves. Place sleeves on top of wings. Place those on top of the three 12' pieces just below center. Fold the top part of three piece over the sleeves and wings.

Take the pipe cleaner and cut off a 2 inch piece. Take the longer piece and put round the paper twist making a waist for the angel. Twist in back. Take ends and twist together to make a hanger for angel.

Take the 2" piece of pipe cleaner and twist together ends forming a circle. Glue the circle on top of wooden piece to form halo.

Glue wooden piece onto the angel's body with a generous amount of glue.

If you like, you can add something for the angel to hold. I have added wooden chalkboards for teachers and golden crosses for religion teachers. They are really easy and fast to make, especially if you have to make a bunch of them at a time. You can do one in ten minutes, 50 in a day!

      Paper Plate Angel
      Materials:

      9" paper plates (plain white)
5-1/2" gold or silver metallic cord
tacky, stick or hot glue and scotch tape
      scissors

Start by cutting paper plate pieces. You'll need to fold over a plate until the edge of one side meets the inside margin of the other side of the plate. Fold plate, then open up and cut along this line. This creates pieces for the body of the angel. Take another plate and cut into 4 equal pieces. Round the outside corners of two of the pieces these will be the angel's wings. Cut out pieces for the head, hair, arms and hands according to the patterns.

Place the body pieces face down with the smaller piece on top and the flat edges aligned. Fold into a cone shape and tape or glue together. Glue the hair piece onto the head circle. Fold the metallic cord into a loop and tape or glue to back of head with cut pieces of cord hiding behind. The majority of the loop should be showing above the head and creating the angel's halo. Fold the arm pieces over a pencil (so as not to create a hard fold but a rounded one). Tape or glue edges together. Glue hands to inside back of sleeve. Glue or tape arms to back of body. Glue or tape wings to back of angel.

Decorate your angel or leave it plain. You could spray gold or silver paint over all or just touches on the wings and bottom of dress and/or glue gold, white, silver or crystal glitter on just the dress, wings and sleeves. Also, bows, beads, ribbons, etc. could be a nice touch. Do as little or as much decorating as you desire..

      ABC Block Angel
      Materials:

      ABC block
      Med. size wooden head
      White felt and wings

Cut a round circle out of felt and place on top of block, circle should be just a little bigger than block, cut a long piece of felt for arms, should be as wide as a finger, and needs to be long enough to wrap around block and hang down on both sides in front for arms. Glue the back part to the block. Legs should be cut together, one piece of felt width of block. Length should at least be as long as 3"in.

Set block down on one end of this and glue, take scissors and cut in middle straight to block, this seperates the legs. Use white pom poms and glue one where each hand and foot would be at edge of felt. Glue head on top of block in center of felt circle, paint flesh and add a face.

Glue on hair and halo, glue wings to block. She doesn't hold anything, but you can use a small wooden book, that is open and paint, and add a saying, if preferred.

      Angel Decoupage Frames

      Materials:

      Sponge brush
Decoupage paper (or wrapping paper), travel brochures, magazines, xeroxed photos, or any type of paper with a gloss or shine to it (heavier paper works best)
Decoupage glue (found at all craft stores)
Gloss or finishing spray (craft store, again)
Paint (acrylic water based paint) optional
      Paint brush
      Tacky Glue (craft store)
      Frames (new or old)
      Light sandpaper or sanding sponge
Trinkets, such as angels, beads, shells, etc. to finish the frame (optional)
      Wood sealer (craft store)

Step by Step Directions for Decoupage Frames:

      Step 1
Take a wooden frame from a craft store or an old beat up frame and sand it so there is a smooth finish to it. With a sponge brush or wet paper towel, wipe the sand off the frame.

      Step 2
Put a coat of clear wood sealer on the frame-allow to dry.

      Step 3 (optional)
Pick a color to paint your frame. It's best to pink a color that blends with the pictures you will glue onto the frame. Or instead of painting, you can simply decoupage the entire frame or just keep the wood color.

      Step 4
While the paint is drying on the frame...cut pictures that you will be using on your frames. You can cut out brochures from your vacation, you can cut school buses and apples if it's a frame for your child's first day of school...be creative.

      Step 5
When the pain on the frame is dry-you are ready to decoupage. DO NOT DO THIS ON A HUMID DAY OR YOUR DECOUPAGE WILL BUBBLE DUE TO MOISTURE IN THE AIR. Take the pictures that you cut out and using your sponge brush put a thin, but full coat of decoupage glue on the back of the picture. Make sure the glue is not gloppy or dripping. Place the picture on the position you want it on the frame. Then take your two thumbs and from the center of the picture push outwards (you are releasing the bubbles this way). If you have a rubber brayer, you can smooth it with that. Continue to decoupage in any design you want. You can overlap pictures or keep them separated.

      Step 6
To finish the frame, spray gloss over the frame or put an extra coat of decoupage glue on the frame. Glue gun seashells, angels, buttons, or any trinkets onto the frame. And viola!-a beautiful memory frame.

      Angel Snow Globe

Almost any jar works for the project. Baby-food, pimiento, and olive jars are good choices.

Look for plastic or ceramic figurines of angels or any other item (metal ones are prone to rust) at flea markets and hobby or model-railroad shops.

Synthetic evergreen tips are available at many floral-supply stores.

If the jar lids are not in seasonal colors already, paint them with oil-based enamel paint. Sand the inside of the lid until the surface is rough. With clear-drying epoxy, adhere the figurine to the inside of the lid, and let the epoxy dry.

Fill the jar almost to the top with distilled water; add a pinch of glitter and a dash of glycerin (available at drugstores) to keep the glitter from falling too quickly. Don't add too much or the glitter will stick to the bottom of the jar when it's flipped. Screw on the lid tightly, being careful not to dislodge the figurine. Turn the jar over and back again-and let it snow.
